Privacy Policy
The promise up front: we never sell your personal information, and we never share it with third parties for their marketing purposes. Not your email, not your phone number, not your bills. Your data is used to lower your bills, full stop.
This Privacy Policy explains how Billhound, Inc. ("Billhound," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use askbillhound.com and our bill review and negotiation services (the "Service").
1. Information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, email address, phone number if you opt in to texting, the bills and documents you send us, and anything you tell us in messages. Bills often contain account numbers, service addresses, and pricing details; that is the point of sending them, and we treat them as sensitive.
- Payment information: collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe. We receive confirmation of charges and the last four digits of your card, never your full card number.
- Automatic information: standard web logs such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring links, used for security and to understand how the site performs. We use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and collects usage information such as pages visited, session duration, approximate location, and device type, to help us understand how visitors use the site. Google processes this information as our service provider. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by using your browser's cookie controls. We also use the Meta (Facebook) pixel, which sets cookies and shares site visit and event information with Meta so we can measure our own advertising and reach people who may want the Service. You can limit this through your browser's cookie controls and through Meta's ad preferences.
2. How we use it
- To review your bills, prepare Savings Offers, and negotiate with your providers with your authorization.
- To communicate with you about your bills, negotiations, and account, by email and, if you opt in, by text.
- To process fees through Stripe under our Terms of Service.
- To operate, secure, and improve the Service, including automated analysis of submitted bills.
- To comply with law and enforce our agreements.
We may use information about how the Service performs in aggregated or de-identified form (for example, average savings by bill type) in ways that do not identify you.
3. What we never do
- We never sell your personal information.
- We never share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
- Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes.
4. When we do share information
We share personal information only in these circumstances:
- Your providers, at your direction: when you authorize a negotiation, we share with the named provider the information needed to negotiate your account.
- Service providers working for us: companies that help us run the Service, such as Stripe for payments, our email and text delivery providers, cloud hosting, Google Analytics for site usage measurement, and Meta for measuring our own advertising. They may use your information only to provide services to Billhound and are bound by contract to protect it.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Billhound, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: if Billhound is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy's promises.
That list is complete. There is no "and our partners" loophole.
5. Text messaging
If you opt in to receive text messages, we use your number solely to communicate about the Service: bill review status, Savings Offers, negotiation updates, and account matters. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help and STOP to cancel at any time. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service and message delivery, is permitted solely to deliver those services.
6. How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, verify savings, satisfy legal and tax obligations, and resolve disputes. Submitted bills are retained while your negotiation and verification are active and are deleted or de-identified when no longer needed. You may request deletion at any time as described in Section 8.
7. How we protect it
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, and vendor agreements. Payment card data is handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS certified processor. No system is perfectly secure, and no company can honestly promise otherwise, but protecting the documents you trust us with is treated as a core part of the Service.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access, correction, deletion: you may request a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to legal retention requirements. Contact us through the site form and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
- Email: service emails are part of running your negotiation; you can close your account to stop them.
- Text: reply STOP at any time.
- State privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws, including the right to know, delete, correct, and to non-discrimination for exercising those rights. We never sell personal information. Our use of the Meta pixel for advertising measurement may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under some state laws; you can opt out at any time through your browser's cookie controls, the Global Privacy Control signal, or by contacting us through the site form.
9. Children
The Service is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
10. Changes to this Policy
If we change this Policy, we will post the update here with a new date, and if a change meaningfully reduces your protections, we will notify you before it takes effect. The no-selling and no-third-party-marketing promises in Section 3 are commitments of the brand, not fine print we plan to walk back.
